Dear Friend,
It was a busy week in Washington and back home in South Jersey. Yesterday, I was honored to welcome Yael Alexander, the mother of New Jerseyan Edan Alexander who remains held hostage by Hamas, as my guest to the State of the Union to highlight the ongoing hostage crisis in Gaza.
In last night’s State of the Union speech, President Biden laid out a vision of progress and possibility that puts working families front and center. The president emphasized the importance of defending Americans' fundamental freedoms, including the freedom to choose. Today, on International Women’s Day, it is critical that we recommit to protecting reproductive freedom, fighting for equal pay, and building a world where all women have the opportunity to thrive.
In his speech, President Biden reaffirmed America’s commitment to supporting democracy around the world and called on Congress to deliver critical aid to our allies and partners who are fighting against tyranny and terrorism. This threat to democracy and global security is a defining challenge of our time - but it also is an opportunity for our nation to once again become the “Arsenal of Democracy.” Yesterday, I argued that unleashing our economic and military might by investing in the domestic industrial base will create jobs and grow the economy while strengthening our allies and our national security. It’s a no-brainer.
Back home in South Jersey, I sent a letter to U.S. Postmaster General Louis DeJoy calling for greater transparency around the proposed changes to the South Jersey Processing and Distribution Center. I spoke with KYW News Radio about my concerns that the move could impact delivery times and jobs in our community. My team and I will continue to monitor this situation and work to ensure that mail services remain timely and reliable for South Jerseyans.
I’m also proud to announce that I secured more than $13.5 million to fund local projects throughout the First District in the government funding package Congress passed on Wednesday. These projects and investments will create affordable housing, upgrade road and transportation projects, improve public safety, and clean up our drinking water. Ensuring South Jersey receives its fair share of federal resources is one of my top priorities, and I look forward to the profound impact this funding will have in our community.
