Medicare for All would go a long way toward ensuring women, and ALL people, have guaranteed, quality health care.

NNU - Medicare for All!

Today is International Women’s Day, and March is Women’s History Month — a time for us to reflect and keep up the fight for women’s rights everywhere.

Though we’ve made advancements to women’s health care and civil rights throughout history, we’re currently witnessing the harmful impacts of the Supreme Court’s decision to roll back nearly 50 years of legal precedent when they overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022.

This dangerous decision by the majority-conservative court erased the federal right to abortion, immediately limiting access to abortion and other reproductive care in nearly half of states in the U.S. Since then, more GOP-controlled state legislatures and courts have attacked reproductive care for women and other child-bearing people through extreme abortion bans, threats to defund or shut down health clinics, and even attempts to limit in vitro fertilization (IVF) and contraception.

While Medicare for All would not codify Roe into law, it would guarantee abortion as a service in states where it’s legal. Under Medicare for All, the cost of abortion care would be covered free at the point of service, and as current House and Senate legislation is written, it would prohibit the Hyde Amendment (which restricts federal funds from being spent on abortion) from applying to Medicare for All funds. Passing Medicare for All would allow abortion to be included as part of guaranteed, comprehensive health care for all people under the program.

Abortion IS health care. We still have so much work left to do to restore full reproductive rights across the country, and Medicare for All would go a long way toward ensuring women, and all people, have the guaranteed, quality health care we deserve.

Will you help us build our movement to pass Medicare for All by signing up to host a canvass during our April Weekend of Action or beyond?

Hosting a canvass is a real way that you can take action to build a stronger movement for Medicare for All. You don’t need any prior experience and we will provide all the training and support you need to be successful.

Nurses will continue to act in solidarity with our coworkers, our patients, and our communities to defend the human rights that workers have fought for and won over centuries of struggle in the United States.

We hope you’ll join us in fighting for a future where abortion care is not only legal, but the cost is covered and guaranteed under Medicare for All.

In solidarity,

Nurses’ Campaign to Win Medicare for All
