Hi John.

I hope you and your family are well. As you may know, last night the President gave his State of the Union address.

I didn’t agree with everything the President said, but I did appreciate his commitment to bipartisan cooperation. That’s a promise I intend to hold him to. I know Kansans are frustrated with partisan gridlock. The last thing anyone needs right now is more extremism in either party.

My job is to serve every person and corner of our community – regardless of party. That starts with listening, so please click below to begin taking my quick survey >>

As Congress and the Administration work to address our nation's challenges, would you say:

I'm positive and hopeful for the future.
I'm reserving judgment for now and want to see how things take shape.
I have serious concerns and would like to share more.
Other / I don’t know.

At the State of the Union, I was glad to be joined by a special guest – Brian Newton. Brian is a veteran and small business owner from Kansas City, Kansas.

After returning home from service, Brian faced multiple challenges in reacclimating to society and starting a business. Since then, he has found success in running Morty’s, a food cart and catering business. I was honored to have Brian join me to showcase the difference Kansas veterans are making, both during their service and once they return home.

Brian’s food cart business, Morty’s, specializes in Italian beef sandwiches and Vienna Beef Chicago-style hot dogs.

Brian’s story is also a great example of why I worked with Republicans and Democrats to pass the bipartisan SERV Act in the House. Our bipartisan bill connects veteran-owned businesses with resources and services so they can grow and hire.

This bill is just one example of what’s possible when both parties focus on solutions, not partisanship. I know good ideas can come from Republicans and Democrats. That’s why more than seven out of every ten bills I’m supporting are bipartisan.

It’s an honor to serve you in the U.S. House of Representatives. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.

My warmest regards,
