We are very excited to welcome Corrine Jeffries, our new Projects Associate, to the team at CNL and New Democracy. Corrine comes to us from Rep. Suzan DelBene’s office, and will be working with us to support CNL’s operations and all the fantastic projects we have planned for this year.
We also just got back from the YIMBYtown 2024 conference in Austin, which we were proud sponsors of. The annual convening of the top pro-housing abundance voices from across the country and even around the world was fantastic, and we’re excited to see how the movement continues to progress over the next year. Keep an eye out for a more in-depth recap of our experience at YIMBYtown that we’ll be sharing soon!

Out in New York City, our local chapter was active in the NY-03 special election, and did some critical work to get Tom Suozzi over the finish line to replace former Congressman George Santos.
- In Los Angeles, the LA New Liberals were also active in their local elections, supporting Laura Friedman, who successfully advanced to the general election after Tuesday’s primary in California.
- In San Francisco, our former Bay Area chapter lead, Steven Buss, helped deliver a huge victory for pro-abundance, pragmatic Democrats in the DCCC election on Tuesday.

Our Denver chapter recently ran a campaign in support of legislation to hold Live Nation-Ticketmaster accountable for their deceptive practices, which was a huge success, gaining support from people across nearly half of all counties in Colorado.

Earlier this week, the Seattle New Liberals put out a statement criticizing a new comprehensive plan draft put forward by the Office of Planning and Community Development in Seattle and called on the city to put forward a new draft plan that will adequately address Seattle’s need to increase the housing supply.

The DC New Liberals are currently celebrating the unanimous passage of a new public safety plan in Washington DC, which they had supported through a text campaign that reached nearly 25,000 voters in DC earlier this year.

Throughout their eight years in government, the Law and Justice party had systematically undermined independent democratic institutions in Poland by packing them with party loyalists. This great column from The Economist explores the challenges that the new ruling party has faced in undoing the legacy of the previous illiberal populist regime, without becoming illiberal themselves.

Zeitlin points to the political opportunity created for unique tax policies like the Carbon tax that will be created by the upcoming expiration of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. This article is a great read for anyone interested in seeing Congress consider carbon pricing for the first time in 15 years.
