Common Dreams

Strange Days Indeed.

On March 13th the Common Dreams news team left behind our now silent newsroom and is now working remotely from home for the time being.

The graph below isn’t the spread of coronavirus but rather it shows the increased traffic our website has had over the past 90-days. While this spike means that our independent journalism is having a growing impact, all that traffic overwhelms our servers and skyrockets our bandwidth usage. Last week we had multiple crashes as our system became overloaded. We scrambled to add additional servers to our system. Our tech team assured us that the work could be done seamlessly—they were wrong, and our whole network crashed for 12-hours on Friday into Saturday.

 Common Dreams - Traffic Surge

We think—we hope—that we are now stabilized and will be able to handle increasing traffic. But if there are times you cannot reach us, please know that we are working around the clock and we will be back. Thanks! Stay strong. We are all in this together.
