As you may already know, our 2024 strategy is all about getting more women elected in states with abortion bans (or impending abortion bans).

Last year, we launched Her Bold Move Florida, an arm of our operation working with partners on the ground in the Sunshine State to pass a constitutional amendment protecting access to abortion.

Abortion is completely banned in Texas – and this ban was made possible by Greg Abbott, Ken Paxton, and their majority-male state legislature. It is illegal to obtain and perform an abortion, with limited exceptions for the life of the mother – which, as we’ve learned from the Texas women who have bravely shared their stories – doesn’t hold up.

We can no longer stand by quietly as the women in Texas continue to get left behind.

As a reminder, Kate Cox, a Texas woman and mother of two children, was around 20 weeks pregnant when she learned the devastating news that her baby had Trisomy 18, a rare and likely fatal diagnosis. Her doctors believed an abortion was medically necessary for her to protect her health and future fertility. But, according to Reuters, “they were unwilling to perform one without a court order in the face of potential penalties including life in prison and loss of their licenses.”

She ended up leaving the state to get the lifesaving care she needed – but there are women across her state who do not have that option. This cannot stand.

We’re here because we believe more women in Texas’s government will help solve this problem. We want to offer game-changing support to the fiercely pro-choice (and pro-woman) women candidates in Texas. But we need your support.
