Hi folks,
Last night, I was honored to have Fran Ehret, NJ State Director of the Communication Workers of America (CWA), as my guest at President Biden’s State of the Union address.
Fran is an invaluable labor leader in New Jersey. As the director of the New Jersey CWA, which represents more than 70,000 New Jersey families, she works every day to empower workers at the bargaining table.
I know firsthand how a good-paying union job can impact a family. My grandfather’s UAW job helped my family into the middle class during the Great Depression. Without it, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
That’s why I’m a proud member of the Congressional Labor Caucus, where I’ve pushed to pass legislation like the Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act, which would support workers' basic right to organize and negotiate for higher pay, better benefits, and safer working conditions.
In too many places, the bitter fight for collective bargaining and organizing rights is still ongoing. Fran and I both know that unions play a huge role in making New Jersey the best place to work, live, and raise a family — and we’re committed to ensuring that organized labor in New Jersey sets the standard for what’s possible for workers across the country.
If you’d like to add your support for my work building up New Jersey’s middle class and strengthening unions, you can click here to contribute any amount. I’m grateful for your generosity.
Take care,
Mikie
