Happy International Women's Day, friend!
It's a tremendous honor to be the longest-serving woman in Congressional history — but I'm not here to set records. I'm here because there's so much more work to be done, for women and for working people throughout the Heartland.
When I was first elected, I was one of just 24 women in Congress. Today, there are 151. That's a major improvement, but it still represents just 28% of Congress in a nation where women are over 50% of the population.
And it's not just women who are still fighting for a seat at the table.
Working-class Americans in communities like ours deserve a Congress that looks out for us. There can be no gender equality without economic justice — without policies like paid family leave, affordable childcare, affordable healthcare, and the Child Tax Credit.
I'm still in Congress because there's more work to be done, friend. I'm grateful to have you with me.
