How MSF expands care for women worldwide

Friend, amid conflict, a natural disaster, a disease outbreak, or during ongoing treatment, women and girls need specific and specialized health care—and yet far too often gender biases keep them from getting the care they need.

On International Women’s Day, we’re highlighting how Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is providing lifesaving care for women around the world—powered by supporters like you.

Isolated Indigenous communities in the Delta Amacuro state in Venezuela have limited access to basic health care—patients often have to paddle by canoe for hours or even days to see a doctor. MSF works in two outpatient clinics helping mothers deliver babies and providing essential health care.

Malawi has the second-highest rate of deaths caused by cervical cancer. However, radiotherapy, the first-line treatment, is not currently available in the country. MSF has developed an innovative model of care for women with cervical cancer that combines chemotherapy and surgery to save lives.

In Central African Republic (CAR), sexual violence is a public health crisis—the survivors who live there urgently need expanded medical and psychological support. MSF is providing treatment for survivors, breaking down the stigma against reporting sexual violence, and expanding programs that include both medical and mental health support for survivors.
