John,
Right now, corporations and right-wing politicians are trying to exploit the coronavirus pandemic to push through tax cuts for big business and federal slush funds for CEOs and shareholders, rather than critical resources for those most in need.
Meanwhile, progressive elected officials like me have successfully pushed for the changes we all need, such as paid leave and improved unemployment insurance. But we have so much more work to do to support people through this crisis and beyond.
In order to implement critical policies that put people first, we need to send more progressive champions to Congress to fight for low-income and working families — including everyday people who understand the pain and fear in our communities. We can't just have temporary fixes and then go back to the status quo, including our broken, privatized healthcare system that’s exacerbating this pandemic.
That's why Justice Democrats are aiming to raise $185,000 from grassroots contributions before midnight on March 31st, in order to continue providing critical support to insurgent, working-class candidates across the country.
When I ran for Congress in 2018, we didn’t have the support of the establishment and we didn’t have millions of dollars in the bank. But with support from Justice Democrats, we built on our people-powered movement and we won.
Since then, our movement has grown and together we have changed the national conversation on what’s politically possible. We’ve moved the needle on fighting for clean air and clean water, removing credit barriers to increase economic opportunities for working people, and so much more.
Serving in Congress is about much more than voting on bills. It's about taking on corporate bullies and bigoted politicians and having the courage to speak out, even when it's unpopular.
Thank you for joining me in supporting Justice Democrats’ work today.
Always serving you,
Rashida Tlaib
