This International Women's Day is unlike any other.

The rise of far-right and conservative movements across the EU—and beyond—poses a significant threat to abortion rights, as well as queer and trans rights. They jeopardise the hard-fought achievements women have secured until now.

The upcoming European Election in June will be critical in determining the future of these rights and achievements.

We celebrate the enshrinement of the right to abortion in the French constitution last Monday. This success was driven by the initiative of our European Greens Co-Chair and Senator Mélanie Vogel, and is a monumental win for all advocates who have tirelessly fought for this cause for years.

Yet, women have every reason to be angry. Their struggles have been belittled and overlooked for far too long. It is this anger that we aim to channel into progress, striving for real change toward a feminist society — both in policy and in practice — across Europe, and beyond.
