We need voting rights protections to stop racist voter suppression. When our courts greenlight state and local policies such as restrictive voter ID laws, closing polling places in communities of color, redrawing district maps to dilute the power of voters of color, and the denial of food and water in hours-long voting lines, marginalized voters are deprived of their fundamental right to an equal say in our democracy.
Congress has the power to secure the right to vote that’s under threat from far-right judges.
Tell your senators: pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act right now. Help us deliver 5,000 signatures demanding action TODAY >>
You may remember our last message to you about the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, which passed the House back in 2021 and was reintroduced into the House this past fall.
Since then, we’ve faced a major setback: MAGA judges on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit issued a ruling that would
eliminate the right of individuals and groups to bring lawsuits under the Voting Rights Act of 1965. If this ruling stands, it will eviscerate the ability of minority voters to defend their right to vote in states that are determined to suppress those rights.
Worse yet, the Appeals Court’s ruling that only the U.S. Department of Justice can enforce the Voting Rights Act means that far-right insurrectionist presidents, like Donald Trump, would have free reign to abuse the power of the presidency to greenlight voter suppression and gerrymandering.
We can beat these attacks from the extreme MAGA right and protect the right to vote for all Americans — but we need your help to succeed. Tell the Senate to support the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act today >>
Thank you for standing with us.
