We’ve got an important update for you.
Members of Congress have re-introduced an important piece of pro-voter legislation — the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act.
This bill provides much-needed tools to stop discriminatory voting practices and laws in their tracks while also discouraging their enactment in the future. It’s a key tool in protecting the freedom to vote across the country, particularly in protecting people of color from voter suppression.
Congress must pass this landmark piece of legislation. Add your name if you agree and support protecting the right to vote — let’s demand action together and make our voices heard.
This legislation updates and strengthens the Voting Rights Act of 1965 — which the Supreme Court gutted in its 2013 Shelby County decision — and puts a transparent process in place for protecting everyone’s freedom to vote. It honors the legacy of its namesake, Congressman John Lewis, by advancing voting rights and defending the sacred right to participate in our democracy.
And it’s badly needed right now. We’re facing a wave of anti-voter legislation across the country at the state level, including here in Georgia, focused on restricting access to the ballot and making it harder for people of color to vote.
To push back, this bill would empower the Department of Justice or the courts to hit the pause button, review new election laws being proposed, and ensure that proposed voting changes don’t discriminate against people of color. All the more reason why we need Congress to pass this crucial bill.
Friends, we must continue to do everything we can to fight back against voter suppression and get this legislation over the finish line. Use your voice today to support this critical bill.
Thank you for working to defend voting rights and ensure that every voice will be heard.
In Solidarity,
The Fair Fight Action Team
