😃 THE GOOD: The state of Wisconsin will have fair maps after having some of the most gerrymandered districts in the country for over a decade. Recent legislation signed by Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers helps establish fairer maps, ensuring that electoral districts are more equitable. This new change will take effect ahead of the upcoming 2024 general election.
😠 THE BAD: The Arizona House has approved a bill banning the use of voting centers and on-site early voting locations. Currently, voters in 12 counties can vote at any voting center as long as it is in their county. Under the new bill, groups of 1,000 or fewer registered voters would be limited to voting at one specific precinct voting location. The legislation would also bar county recorders from establishing on-site early voting locations, further restricting voter access in Arizona.
The bill is going to the Arizona Senate for further consideration.
😡 THE UGLY: The Delaware Superior Court has found the state's early voting and permanent absentee voting statutes unconstitutional. A judge granted the plaintiffs’ request to strike down the laws and denied a state election commissioner and the Delaware Department of Elections' request to dismiss a complaint that argued the statutes violate the state's constitution.
Restricting these voting options could lead to longer lines at the polls and prevent parents, shift workers, people with disabilities, and other voters from being able to cast their ballots. Delaware Attorney General Kathy Jennings plans to appeal this decision to the Delaware Supreme Court.
