Hi John —
Yesterday, Republican extremists in Congress attempted to defund the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and eliminate the Department of Veterans Affairs’ ability to use the national background check system to stop folks at risk of dangerous behavior from buying new guns. This is a critical tool for reducing suicides, and getting rid of it would be the greatest rollback of the background check system since it was created.
Despite many positive provisions in the legislation, Republicans continue to use any excuse to make our country less safe.
Congressman Maxwell Frost said it best when he shared why he voted against the bill:
This is what we’re fighting for, John. What happens in November matters (a lot!), but how we show up between now and then matters a lot, too.
So today, please take 1 minute to write to your member of Congress and demand they oppose any additional attempts to make our country less safe.
After you’ve sent your messages, please forward this email to 3 friends and ask them to follow your lead in demanding an end to gun violence and any legislation that reverses the progress we’ve already made.
Together, our movement can stop harmful legislation like this and elect gun safety candidates up and down the ballot in November.
Thanks for taking action,
March for Our Lives
