I've met with Dawn, Karen, and the many others involved with Just Moms StL many times. Thanks to their tireless efforts and our government transparency laws, they uncovered a decades-long plot by the federal government to hide the extent of radioactive contamination in Missouri.

We need the federal government to take responsibility for what it did to our state. A bipartisan group in Congress has pushed for an expansion of the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act, also called RECA. Yesterday, President Biden expressed his support for the effort. This is a big moment for Missouri's families.

When I was at the Attorney General's Office, we used to have a group of extremely qualified attorneys working in the Agriculture and Environmental Division. That division was eliminated, and, for the last many, many months, we have seen absolutely nothing come from our Attorney General's Office on protecting families from radioactivity. I've worked with Democrats, Republicans, and plenty of folks who couldn't care less about politics on this issue. They just want someone to help with their child, or parent, or friend's cancer. And they deserve an Attorney General who will.

As Attorney General, I will reinstitute a Conservation Division. In addition to dealing with radioactive waste, our state is facing unprecedented attacks on our land, our air, and especially our water. As I write this, some legislators are trying to make it much easier for massive corporations to dump their hazardous waste into waterways. I believe our kids and grandkids should be able to drink the water in our state, and I will hold those poisoning our people accountable, even if some of those folks work in our federal government.

We need an Attorney General who is on our side. And it's well past time for us to have one.
