This evening, President Biden will deliver the final State of the Union
address of his first term. As I get ready to attend this important
annual tradition, I keep thinking how President Biden's and Donald
Trump's versions of this speech couldn't be more different.

When I was preparing for Donald Trump's State of the Union addresses, I
always used to hope he'd talk about important issues -- like how we
could work together to invest in American infrastructure or expand
access to affordable health care. Instead, as the nation watched, Donald
Trump used his platform to spout extremist rhetoric and divide
Americans, as MAGA Republicans in Congress applauded.

But now, when I sit in the House chamber and watch President Biden's
addresses, I'm overwhelmed with a sense of pride. President Biden uses
the State of the Union to unite Americans instead of divide us, and to
lay out bold plans for the future -- plans we've delivered on, time and
again.

We simply can't go back down the road of darkness and division that
we'll face if Trump and his MAGA allies gain control of the Senate.
Under President Biden and Senate Democrats, America has so many reasons
to be optimistic. So let's make sure we keep moving forward.
