Hey everyone:

I wanted to take space to recognize what happened 59 years ago today in Selma, Alabama.

Peaceful demonstrators, taking action against the constant voter suppression and racist attacks, were brutalized by Alabama State Troopers — because they were Black.

Leading them was the great Rep. John Lewis. Long before he served in Congress, he was a true activist.

His commitment to our democracy, to uplifting Black Americans, to equality, it inspires me daily.

I even got a tattoo in his honor:

The Black heart represents the struggle of Black Americans. And the blood tears are for all the blood shed in the struggle for equality. And the red lightning symbolizes the chaos that ensues when you get into Good Trouble.

I got this tattoo to remind me of the fights and struggles that came before me, fights like Bloody Sunday.

I’m running for Congress to protect the democracy that people like John Lewis built.

If you’re able, will you chip in so I can defend voting rights, protect democracy and keep the fight for Good Trouble? ([link removed],,,,)
