The Minnesota Department of Revenue has valuable and comprehensive resources to help you file for deceased taxpayers. Take a moment to familiarize yourself with them.

• We have guidance for filing final returns for a deceased client or family member:
  • Individual Income Tax returns
  • Property Tax Refund returns
  • Credit for Military Service in a Combat Zone
• If a client died during active service in the armed forces, they may qualify for tax relief. For details, see our Tax Relief for Deceased Active-Duty Military page.
• If a client is claiming a refund on behalf of a deceased taxpayer, they must complete Form M23, Claim for a Refund for a Deceased Taxpayer.
