A smart CNR bill could clear unnecessary hurdles to feeding kids in two key ways:
- It would relax a current requirement that kids eat meals onsite at summer meals sites. Kids and their families often face many barriers to doing that. The proposal would help create more grab and go options.
- It would permanently establish a program that gives families in need a monthly grocery benefit during the summer months. When school is out and free school meals close, struggling families face hundreds of dollars in additional food bills. That's money many families simply don't have.
John, you know summer is the hungriest time of year for kids who depend on school meals. These common sense measures will go far in reducing summer hunger, giving children more of the carefree summer they deserve.
Thank you for all you do for hungry kids.
