GLAAD is looking for undergraduates to be an official Campus Ambassador for the 2019-20 academic year. GLAAD Campus Ambassadors help build sustainable and inclusive programming for LGBTQ and ally university students and other youth, all while learning GLAAD’s best practices on leveraging media to create change. Following the mass shootings in El Paso and Dayton, the digital, right-wing nonprofit PragerU released a video that falsely claims President Donald Trump did not use the phrase “very fine people” to describe white nationalists in 2017. Variety salutes Philanthropist of the Year and LGBTQ activist Ariadne Getty
Last week, GLAAD Board Member Ariadne Getty was named Variety’s Philanthropist of the Year <[link removed]> for her LGBTQ advocacy work with organizations like GLAAD and the Los Angeles LGBT Center. Getty has continued to be a generous benefactor of GLAAD and last year announced a $15 million multi-year lead gift to launch the GLAAD Media Institute. The Ariadne Getty Foundation and GLAAD also join forces each year to host LGBTQ programming during the World Economic Forum annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland and ensure that LGBTQ issues are priorities for the world leaders in attendance.

It’s a ‘missed opportunity’ that not one LGBTQ question was asked in last week’s Democratic Presidential Debates
GLAAD was on the ground in Detroit for the second in a series of 2020 Democratic Primary debates that aired on CNN last week, and the moderators didn’t ask any LGBTQ-related questions <[link removed]>. “Omitting any questions about reversing the dangerous attacks President Trump has made against LGBTQ Americans since taking office is a missed opportunity that needs to be corrected in tomorrow’s debate and across future election coverage,” said Sarah Kate Ellis, President and CEO of GLAAD. “At a time when the Trump Administration tries to erase the LGBTQ community at every turn, the media should make LGBTQ-specific issues a priority by asking each presidential candidate how they will fight for and protect LGBTQ people across the nation.”
One in three LGBTQ gamers have faced identity-based harassment in multiplayer games, new report shows
A report from theAnti-Defamation League <[link removed]>finds that 74 percent of adult gamers have experienced harassment. 35 percent of LGBTQ players have faced harassment based on their identity. This comes at a time when GLAAD is starting work with leaders in the video game industry to create safer and inclusive spaces. You can read more about the study here <[link removed]>.
2019 Toronto International Film Festival unveils a diverse array of awards season contenders
The Toronto International Film Festival announced its official selections <[link removed]> for the 2019 iteration. The Jennifer Lopez-led film Hustlers will debut at the festival. The film also features Transparent star Trace Lysette and LGBTQ ally Lizzo. Cannes favorite Portrait of a Lady on Fire will also be shown, upping its chances of remaining in the awards season conversations.
