Dear John,
In the midst of this crisis, we are reminded of what truly counts in our lives: our health, the safety of our family and friends, and our commitment to taking care of one another.
I write today with the hope that you and your loved ones are all well—and weathering this unprecedented storm with strength and resilience.
That is what we at AJC are working to do. We are determined not to let this turmoil slow us down. The importance of our mission has not diminished. If anything, it has only grown more urgent. We know from hard and bitter experience that uncertainty and fear have a way of stoking antisemitism, anti-Israel conspiracy theories, and all types of hatred.
AJC remains committed to fighting these evils and standing up for the values that we hold dear. In the past few weeks, we have mobilized rapidly so as not to miss a beat in our work—and so you have the tools that you need to stay informed and continue your advocacy on behalf of the Jewish people.
- While social distancing keeps people apart, AJC is still bringing us together on the issues that matter—virtually. We recently launched Advocacy Anywhere, Powered by AJC, a new platform that brings AJC expertise and other high-quality content to you at home. You have access to exclusive video and telephone briefings with influential figures; audio segments on the topics of the day; hard-hitting AJC analysis; and opportunities to take action from your computer, tablet, or smartphone. I invite you to view some recent sessions and register for an upcoming event here.
- While we face dark times, AJC is inspiring us to celebrate the countless points of light. Our new #BeAMensch initiative seeks to publicly encourage and highlight acts of kindness and decency during the coronavirus crisis. So many people of all backgrounds are helping one another, both here in America and around the world, that AJC’s campaign has already reached directly 250,000 people on social media. Share your stories of humanity, compassion, and courage here.
- While AJC’s offices remain physically closed, our team continues working hard to open doors and build new relationships. In 35 locations across six continents, AJC staff is finding innovative ways to advance our priorities given the current reality. We continue to engage remotely with government representatives, elected officials, diplomats, and interfaith and interethnic partners. We simply won’t give up fighting for the Jewish people, for Israel, for compassion and decency, and for what’s right. In this moment, Asian Americans are especially vulnerable. We have reached out to our many friends in those communities to voice our steadfast support.
Though it may be difficult to imagine now, we will get through this trying time together—and, yes, we will be stronger for it. Until then, we urge you to stay safe and follow all the public health guidelines.
I hope to “see” you soon at one of our online programs.
Warm regards,
David Harris
