President Biden to Give State of the Union Speech Tonight

Daily Wire: House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) has invited Mia Schem, a young Israeli woman who was held hostage by Hamas, to President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address on Thursday. During the October 7 Hamas massacre of more than 1,200 Israelis, Schem was shot in the arm as she was seized from the Supernova music festival. Her family said she developed epilepsy as a result of being held until November 30, 54 days after she was seized (Daily Wire). Fox News: President Biden faces two opponents heading into the election. Former President Trump is the presumptive Republican nominee. And then Mr. Biden must square off against Democrats who are despondent at the president’s performance. Anemic poll numbers are driving loyal Democrats away from President Biden (Fox News).

Nikki Haley Suspends Presidential Campaign, Declines to Endorse Trump
Wall Street Journal: Nikki Haley was the first major candidate to challenge Donald Trump for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination. On Wednesday, she became the last one to stand down. The former South Carolina governor said she was suspending her campaign after losing all but two of this year’s nominating contests, further clearing the path for the former president to be the GOP standard-bearer for the third consecutive presidential election (Wall Street Journal). Nikki Haley: I end my campaign with the same words I began it from the Book of Joshua. I direct them to all Americans, but especially to so many of the women and girls out there who put their faith in our campaign. Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid. Do not be discouraged. For God will be with you wherever you go. In this campaign, I have seen our country’s greatness. From the bottom of my heart – thank you America (X). Benny Johnson: Nikki Haley drops out of race and skips endorsement for Trump: “I wish him well” (X).

Internal Leaks From World Professional Association for Transgender Health Reveal Malpractice on Massive Scale
Daily Wire: Internal files from the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH), which purports to be a medical association that develops “standards” for transgender treatment, show members engaging in fly-by-night, experimental treatments — contradicting the public line that its recommendations are governed by evidence and science. The research group Environmental Progress analyzed hundreds of pages of internal posts and videos after they were obtained by its founder, journalist Michael Shellenberger. It concluded that the nominally scientific group was nothing more than an unethical activist group that existed to give cover to doctors who didn’t want to be sued by allowing them to say they were just following experts’ standards (Daily Wire). Michael Shellenberger:  Advocates of gender-affirming care say it’s evidence-based. But now, newly released internal files from the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) prove that the practice of transgender medicine is neither scientific nor medical (X). J.K. Rowling: “It will go down as one of the worst medical scandals in history.” The wpath files put it beyond doubt that surgeries and drugs of unproven benefit are being given to those who cannot give informed consent. If you’re still cheering this on, you are complicit (X).

House Passes $460 Billion Spending Package to Avert Government Shutdown
Associated Press: The House passed a $460 billion package of spending bills Wednesday that would keep money flowing to key federal agencies through the remainder of the budget year. The Senate is expected to take up the legislation before a midnight Friday shutdown deadline. Lawmakers are negotiating a second package of six bills, including defense, in an effort to have all federal agencies fully funded before a March 22 deadline. In the end, total discretionary spending set by Congress is expected to come in at about $1.66 trillion for the full entire year (Associated Press). Washington Examiner: The minibus, which funds the government through the rest of the fiscal year, includes funding for Agriculture; Military Construction and Veterans Affairs; Transportation, Housing and Urban Development; Energy and Water; Interior and Environment; and Commerce, Justice, and Science. The remaining six appropriations bills are set to expire on March 22. The proposed bill includes several spending cuts, including a 10% decrease in funding to the Environmental Protection Agency, a 7% decrease in funding to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and a 6% decrease in funding to the FBI (Washington Examiner).

NYC Subways to be Guarded by National Guard Members to Subvert Crime
NBC: A series of recent, high-profile crimes in the New York City subway system prompted Gov. Kathy Hochul on Wednesday to send National Guard members into the sprawling underground network. Hochul is ordering a force of nearly 1,000 people, comprised of 750 National Guard members, state police and MTA officers, to conduct bag checks at some of the busiest stations. The effort, Hochul said, is aimed to “rid our subways of people who commit crimes and (to) protect all New Yorkers whether you’re a commuter or a transit worker” (NBC). Associated Press: The move came as part of a larger effort from the governor’s office to address crime in the subway, which included a legislative proposal to ban people from trains for three years if they are convicted of assaulting a subway passenger and the installation of cameras in conductor cabins to protect transit workers (Associated Press).

Hillary Clinton Urges People to Vote for Biden Despite His Age
New York Post: Hillary Clinton says it’s time for Americans to just accept that President Biden is old — but vote for him anyway. Still, Clinton urged voters to still back Biden, saying that mushrooming fears over the oldest-ever president — who would be 86 at the end of a second term — are nothing compared to those of former President Donald Trump, 77, returning to the White House (New York Post). KanekoaTheGreat: Hillary Clinton Tells Democrats to ‘Accept Reality’: ‘Joe Biden Is Old’ “Let’s go ahead and accept the reality. Joe Biden is old. So, really, pick between your two old ones and figure out how you’re going to save our democracy.” It’s astonishing how the political establishment and corporate media portray a potential Donald Trump victory in the 2024 election as the demise of democracy or the end of elections. There is only one party enthusiastically advocating for increased censorship, and it’s not Donald Trump’s. Simultaneously, they weaponize the judicial system against their political adversaries, trying to unilaterally remove them from ballots, preventing the public from deciding. Isn’t that the end of democracy and elections (X)?

Polling Indicates More Latinos Considering Leaving Democrat Party
Vox: A new national poll of Latino voters offers some warning signs for Republicans as well as Democrats as the general election crystallizes: A sizable chunk of Latino voters appear to be willing to rethink their party loyalties. Some 19.4 percent, or about one in five Latino voters, say they have considered changing their political affiliation either by switching parties or becoming independents, according to a national survey. A majority of those wavering voters (61.1 percent) say they’d be open to leaving the Democratic Party and a plurality of those Democratic waverers (38.1 percent) would become Republicans. Though that’s a small share of all Latino voters, that’s still a significant number for a demographic group whose loyalty to Democrats has been eroding since Donald Trump’s presidency (Vox). Collin Rugg: CNN says the Republican Party before Donald Trump doesn’t exist anymore because Trump took it over. CNN was also forced to admit that more black men and Latinos are voting for Trump (X).

U.S. Lawmakers Bring Ultimatum to ByteDance: Divest From TikTok or Face a National Ban
Reuters: A bipartisan group of U.S. lawmakers introduced legislation on Tuesday to give China’s ByteDance about six months to divest popular short video app TikTok or face a U.S. ban, seeking to tackle national security concerns about its Chinese ownership. The bill is the first significant legislative move in nearly a year toward banning or forcing ByteDance to divest the popular app, after senate legislation to ban it stalled in Congress last year in the face of heavy lobbying by TikTok (Reuters). Washington Examiner: If Gallagher’s bill is passed, TikTok would have six months to divest itself from ByteDance or risk being banned in the United States. Gallagher noted that while the bill does call out ByteDance due to its relationship with the CCP, the legislation creates a “framework” tied to “foreign adversary control” for dealing with more companies than just TikTok, an approach he said is meant to avoid the constitutionality concerns. The bill has gained significant traction in the last 24 hours (Washington Examiner).

San Francisco Papers Question if City Is Still Liberal After Super Tuesday
San Francisco Standard: Famously liberal San Francisco appeared to lurch to the right Tuesday, or at least move closer to the center, as frustrated voters approved two key propositions: one that increases police surveillance powers and curbs citizen oversight, and a second that will require some welfare recipients to be screened for drug use. Polling has shown that San Franciscans are fed up with the record drug deaths, the bodies and needles strewn on sidewalks, the tents that dot their daily commutes, the retail theft and bipping—oh, the bipping!—and the shuttered businesses they once frequented (San Francisco Standard). HotAir: Still, it does look as if the trend which started with the recall of progressive DA Chesa Boudin and the subsequent recall of three very woke members of the school board hasn’t ended yet. Whether people label themselves progressive or not on issues, they still expect city government to function (HotAir).

MLB Video Game Adds Women as Customizable Characters in Game Mode
Daily Wire: The Major League Baseball video game “MLB The Show” is introducing women players in its 2024 edition of the game even though professional women’s baseball doesn’t exist. For the first time, gamers will be able to create and play with a woman baseball player in the “Road to the Show: Women Pave Their Way” game mode. The “Road to the Show” game mode, which has been a staple of “The Show” throughout the years, allows users to customize a player and play through an MLB career. Mollie Braley, a narrative designer, for “MLB The Show” told PlayStation.Blog that the game’s new feature allowing people to play as women “was inspired by the stories of women in baseball” (Daily Wire). CBS: MLB The Show isn’t the first professional sports game that will feature women’s players. The NHL series, NBA 2K and EA Sports FC have featured female characters in recent years. MLB The Show 24 will also feature an emphasis on storylines from the Negro Leagues thanks to a partnership with the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum. This time around, there will be 10 new Negro League Legends with their own stories, including Toni Stone, who was the first woman to play in the Negro Leagues on a full-time basis (CBS). Does this mean they can finally tell us what a woman is?
