Words matter, help shape the conversation
Eating disorders and disordered eating are not a lifestyle choice. They are medical illnesses, and the way we talk about them matters. Eating disorders can affect people of all ages, body shapes, weights, races, gender identities, and sexual orientations. At least 1 in 10, or 9% of people in Washington, will have an eating disorder in their lifetime. This is likely an undercount.
Public awareness is key to better recognizing, supporting, and treating eating disorders. We need to talk about them and share information and resources.
