Dear John,

I wanted to reach out today to underscore how much I've appreciated your support throughout my public service career.

Last night's election results were not what we had hoped for, of course. Even with thousands of votes yet to count, I don't anticipate the outcome in my race changing in a meaningful way.

Since I can remember, my sense of purpose has been deeply tied to finding ways to matter to others and make the world better. I've been extraordinarily privileged to have lots of opportunities to do just that, from my leadership of Bet Tzedek Legal Services through my career in elected office. It's all been so rewarding. Each step along the way has fueled my optimism and sense that not only can each of us make a real difference — we have a responsibility to do so.

I'm looking forward to figuring out what the next chapter in my career will be. All I know for sure is that there is so much to be done and such urgency to do it.

We only have a brief moment to burn brightly. With your continued insight, guidance and support, I'm intent on making the most of that moment.
