It's been a little while since I last reached out, so I'd like to share why it’s an honor to represent you – and if you're willing, ask you to chip in any amount to help us keep our Senate majority this November. [[link removed]]
The story of my family is one of immigrants seeking the American Dream. My mother, Anna, immigrated from Lithuania and later met my father, William, an Irish-American. It's their determination, faith, and perseverance that inspired me as a kid, and still does to this day.
In high school, I got my first job at a meatpacking plant. I used what money I made to save up for an education. It wasn't easy, but it taught me that working hard pays dividends, especially when others are counting on you.
I was first drawn to public service as a college student. Using the determination passed down to me from my parents, I became an intern for the late Senator Paul Douglas (he was one of the greats).
A Bachelor's and Law Degree later, I married my wife, Loretta, and continued my work in government. Shortly after, I ran for and was elected as a member of the House of Representatives by less than one percent. Since then, I've served with a single goal in mind: to fight for Illinois families just like mine.
Fast forward a few elections and it's now the honor of a lifetime to serve as United States Senator for the state that has helped shape me into who I am today. As your Senator, I've seen fierce debate and remarkable moments of bipartisanship – it epitomizes the greatness of our democracy and who we are as a people. But this year feels different.
Donald Trump and his MAGA agenda continue to resonate across all corners of our country. He's using his platform as a means to uplift election deniers, anti-abortion extremists, and voting rights critics – and they're running for Senate in 2024.
It's more important than ever that we keep our majority in the Senate, not just to combat Trump's extremism, but to continue our fight for working families across the country. I'm doing everything I can to keep our Democratic Senate majority, but I need your support.
