ATF special agents are highly trained, elite law enforcement officers who investigate violations of federal laws and regulations related to the criminal misuse of firearms and explosives, firearms trafficking, acts of arson, and the diversion of alcohol and tobacco products.
As sworn law enforcement officers, our special agents are authorized to carry weapons and make arrests for federal offenses. They serve as experts on a wide range of tasks: interviewing suspects and witnesses; surveilling targets; securing and executing search warrants; and collecting physical evidence.?
