In my experience, many of Congress’ best laws have developed from colleagues with different politics and life experiences working together.

That’s why I teamed up with Republican Senator Deb Fischer and passed the first-ever nationwide paid family leave law in 2017.

Because we came together across party lines, America has been able to offer tax credits to businesses that offer paid family leave for the past six years. Unfortunately, that tax credit is set to expire next year – which is creating a lot of uncertainty among the small business community, trying to map out their finances for the future. So we’re introducing bipartisan legislation to make these tax credits permanent and encourage employers to offer up to 12 weeks of fully paid family leave.

The great thing about this legislation is that it’s not about Democrats vs. Republicans, or even businesses vs. workers. Our new bill, the Paid Family and Medical Leave Tax Credit Extension and Enhancement Act , is supported across the political spectrum and by the restaurant and small business industries!

Once we pass this bill, we’ll be one step closer to every American having the space and time they need to welcome a new child, deal with health issues, or care for an aging parent.

Let’s get it done.

Angus

There is nothing more important to Senator King than doing right by the people of Maine. This means fighting on their behalf for the issues that matter most, whether that’s health care, national security, veterans, education, economic certainty, the environment or job creation. Throughout his decades of public service, he has worked tirelessly to build relationships and improve opportunities for all Maine people, from Kittery to Fort Kent.
