Dear Friend,?
?
Yesterday, the DC Council voted 10-3 to protect Inititave 82, defeating an amendment aggressively pushed by RAMW - the restaurant lobby. Through the efforts of tipped workers, voters, and customers, we prevented radical change to the timeline that threatened implementation of the ballot measure. An overwhelming majority of Councilmembers stood with us, standing by workers and voters. The I-82 minimum wage increases will follow the ballot language, with a tipped minimum wage increase from $8 to $10 in July 2024, and full elimination in 2027.?
?
Unfortunately, the Council still made some changes that workers and allies oppose. They reduced consumer protections for restaurant fees up to 20% and allowed restaurants to get some rent breaks when they use fees. There was a lot of debate on these issues, and we believe it's time for comprehensive reform of junk fees. Learn more about how consumers can join the fight ar our next infosession on March 12.?
?
By standing together we beat the most viscious attacks by the restaurant lobby! We will continue to fight for great jobs and fair prices in the restaurant industry.?
?
In solidarity,?
