Hi John,
Denver is facing serious public safety challenges. Violent crime, and especially gun crime, remains higher than five and ten years ago. Property crime and car theft remain at near-record levels and disproportionately impact our working families, and the fentanyl drug epidemic traps too many people in addiction and homelessness.
That’s why I’m committed to working to make our criminal justice system more effective, fair, and just for everyone. I’ve put together a four-point plan to take on these key issues.
1.
Fight
violent
crime
by
establishing
a
special
violent
crime
unit
to
work
with
law
enforcement
and
community
organizations
with
a
twin
strategy:
an
enforcement
strategy
coupled
with
expanded
community
and
youth
violence
prevention
programs.
2.
Address
the
fentanyl
epidemic
with
targeted
enforcement
aimed
at
higher-level
drug
dealers
while
expanding
drug
courts
and
probation
programs
to
help
people
get
the
help
they
need
with
substance
abuse
and
mental
health
treatment.
3.
Dramatically
reduce
car
and
catalytic
converter
theft
by
establishing
a
motor
vehicle
theft
unit
that
will
target
organized
theft
groups.
4.
Build
the
trust
of
the
community
in
law
enforcement
by
working
with
the
community
to
enhance
criminal
justice
reform
programs.
This plan will dramatically and immediately help working families across the city. But I’m going to need your help to make it a reality.
