Hi Friend –
With the 2024 elections in full swing, it's imperative that online platforms take action to safeguard democracy. However, our recent analysis reveals a stark reality: All ten of the biggest social media platforms are falling short — way short — on election preparedness.
A few months ago, we introduced Democracy by Design, a framework endorsed by civil society organizations to protect election integrity in major elections around the world. This framework proposes actionable and content-agnostic steps for online platforms to adopt — some even empirically backed by their own research. To assess their readiness for elections, we created a scorecard based on these recommendations. We found that no platform scored above 62%.
Friend, social media companies bear a responsibility to ensure their platforms aren't exploited by bad actors to erode trust in democracy. Join us in sharing the report's alarming findings:

With at least 60 general elections around the globe, it's time for Big Tech to prioritize democracy over profit. We're committed to holding these tech giants accountable, but we need your support.
In the coming months, we’re going to creatively call out platforms for failing to meet these baseline recommendations for protecting election integrity. We count on grassroots donors to provide us the foundation we need for successful campaigns to take on some of the biggest companies in the world.

Accountable Tech
We see the irony of asking you to take action on the same platforms we’re fighting to hold accountable, but they are… well… dominant. We have to reach people where they are in order to level the playing field -- and we’re ready to bring the fight right to their own platforms.
