The Office of Behavioral Health Services is pleased to bring standards for Systemic, Therapeutic, Assessment, Resources, and Treatment (START) training to Mobile Crisis Providers working with people with Intellectual Disability Disorder and mental health needs. Training will offer 6 training sessions beginning April 2, 2024. This evidence-based approach is designed to build expertise in professionals that strengthens inefficiencies and service outcomes for individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities and behavior health needs in the community. Eligible participants will receive a certificate of completion at the time of course completion.

This course is designed to improve knowledge for mobile crisis responders, clinicians, and supervisors to successfully support children and adults with IDD and mental health service needs and their families. Series facilitators will provide real-world, applicable knowledge and demonstrate how the information provided can improve the ability of mobile crisis responders to identify service and support needs in a person-centered way and monitor outcomes for individuals and their families.

 

Who should attend?

  • Mobile Crisis Responders, Clinicians, & Supervisors
  • Emergency Services Clinicians
  • Mental Health and/or IDD Case Managers/Service Coordinators

 

What does this course entail?

The course consists of 6 weekly, webinar-style sessions via Zoom (105 minutes each) where the course facilitator will demonstrate how the information reviewed during sessions can be applied in the day-to-day support of people with IDD-MH. Each session promotes participant engagement through polls, chat, breakout groups, and other methods.

 

What do I get?

To receive a Certificate of Completion and 1.05 University of New Hampshire CEUs

(10.5 contact hours) participants must:

▪ Attend each Zoom session (if unable to attend a session, a recording will be available)

▪ Engage with materials for each session, available in a materials folder for each participant.

▪ Complete a short training evaluation following each session.

 

What are the learning objectives?

At the conclusion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Identify how common mental health conditions may present in persons with IDD.
  • Identify the most common mental health conditions within the IDD population.
  • Clarify the difference between a person’s presentation and their diagnostic understanding.
  • Apply skills and approaches learned in sessions to crisis assessments of individuals with IDD-MH
  • Integrate information learned into disposition recommendations.

 

When does this course happen?

This course meets once weekly via Zoom on Tuesdays from 1:00pm-2:45pm ET.

The first session will be Tuesday, April 2nd, 2024

The final session will be Tuesday, May 14th, 2024

(There will be no session on May 7th, see you at 2024 SNTI!)
