John,
I won’t take up too much of your time this morning, but I just wanted to shoot you a quick message—my first one as your Democratic nominee for State Treasurer.
More than anything, I want you to know how grateful I am.
Over the last eleven months, we’ve really launched a movement in this state—$440,000 raised from more than 2,000 grassroots contributions covering 77 out of 100 counties. Nearly 200 endorsements from members of Congress, current & former state legislators, local elected officials, and the advocacy organizations that fight for you every day. More than 160 public events in every corner of this state, and really every corner, not just in the big metro areas—this has been a true statewide campaign.
Truthfully, genuinely, I’m overwhelmed by it all. Never in my wildest dreams did I think that a kid from Alexander County would get here. Eleven months ago, I decided to step up because my parents taught me that our government can be a force for good when it invests in our communities, and I wanted to share that vision with our state. Now, as your Democratic nominee for State Treasurer, I’m so excited to take the fight for opportunity—and for a better North Carolina—to the Republicans this Fall.
The momentum is with us. The wind is at our backs. Yes, God knows that the road ahead won’t always be easy. There are a lot of people with a vested interest in keeping North Carolina down who would love to see us fail, and they’re going to be throwing a lot of money, energy, and misinformation at us to try and keep this seat in Republican hands. But the energy is with this movement, and we’re not going to back down until we’ve shown this state that showing up for our people works.
We’re going to fight for our neighbors. We’re going to fight for our communities. We’re going to fight for our state employees, for our teachers, and for working families from Murphy to Manteo. We’re going to fight to win back our rural areas, and we don’t have to sacrifice our values as Democrats to do it—we just have to show up and show them that someone is willing to fight for them.
That’s how we’re going to flip this seat and build opportunity so that every single one of our neighbors has the chance to succeed, no matter their background or their circumstances.
We’ve got this.
Thank you again,
Wesley Harris
P.S. And if you want to help us get off to the right start for the general election, I’d love for you to make a contribution at [link removed] [[link removed]] .

Wesley Harris is a North Carolina native and the only PhD economist in the General Assembly. First elected in 2018, he has been fighting hard for the residents of southern Mecklenburg County and working to make our state the best place in the country to live, work, and start a family. Now, Wesley is running for Treasurer to make an investment in our state's greatest asset, its people. Together, Wesley believes that we can unlock the potential of our people and build opportunity for every North Carolinian.
