John,
Donald Trump’s single largest “accomplishment” as President was passing a tax scam that handed the majority of its tax breaks to wealthy corporations and the richest 1%.
A new report from the Institute on Taxation and the Economy shows that in the first 5 years of the Trump-GOP tax scam, 342 large profitable corporations avoided paying more than $275 billion in taxes thanks to loopholes and tax breaks. 109 of those corporations received tax refunds totaling $14.4 billion, meaning they paid negative tax rates in certain years.[1]
Today, voters in 15 states go to the polls in their states’ primaries and caucuses. Recent polling shows that 67% of battleground state voters believe that raising taxes on the wealthy and corporations is the single best way to reduce the budget deficit,[2] and 73% of voters―including majorities of Democrats, independents, and Republicans―support raising taxes on billionaires and corporations.[3]
Donald Trump and congressional Republicans have signaled that, if elected this November, more tax breaks for the rich and corporations are their top priority in 2025. That means that tax fairness is on the ballot this year!
We’re fighting back against attempts to further rig our economy, and instead demanding a tax system that puts working people first.
Sign now to tell Congress: No new tax breaks for the wealthy and large profitable corporations!
In 2017, the Trump-GOP tax scam lowered the corporate income tax rate from 35% to just 21%. But most corporations pay much less than that due to tax breaks and loopholes that were either maintained or made worse as part of the tax scam. In fact, in 2020, 55 large profitable corporations paid $0 in federal taxes, including household names such as Nike and FedEx.[4]
We need tax policies that require large profitable corporations and the ultra-wealthy to pay their fair share. When they do, we can lower costs for working people and create a fair share tax system that puts working people first.
Add your name to tell Congress: No new tax breaks for the wealthy and large profitable corporations.
This is our message to Congress on Super Tuesday and every day between now and Election Day.
Thank you,
David Kass
