Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu has pledged to invade the city of Rafah, regardless of any ceasefire deal. The assault is planned for March 10th, the start of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. More than 1.4 million people are currently sheltering in Rafah, where Israel had previously told civilians to gather to escape the war. (1)
The planned attack on Rafah would be yet another horrific escalation in Israel’s assault on Gaza that has already claimed over 30,000 Palestinian lives, including over 13,000 children. (2)

“An Israeli offensive on Rafah would lead to an unspeakable humanitarian catastrophe,” said the European Union’s head of foreign policy. (3) The deaths, loss of humanitarian aid, and ensuing starvation would be a new devastating stage in this monstrous war. President Biden and Congress must finally use their immense leverage to halt these horrific attacks on civilians in Gaza.
After more than four months of horrific violence that has killed so many innocent people, Congress and the White House must call for an immediate ceasefire and pressure Israel to find a permanent end to this armed conflict.
