Topic for this week

Israel has accepted a U.S.-backed agreement for a temporary pause in the fighting in Gaza in exchange for Hamas releasing some of the hostages.

ACTION NEEDED: Make sure your members of Congress know it's Hamas that’s obstructing a ceasefire deal to free hostages and increase aid to Gaza.

NOTABLE QUOTES

Secretary of State Antony Blinken: "We have an opportunity for an immediate ceasefire that can bring hostages home, that can dramatically increase the amount of humanitarian assistance... It is on Hamas to make decisions about whether it is prepared to engage in that ceasefire."

White House National Security Communications Adviser John Kirby: "Israel has put a forward-leaning deal on the table. They have made an offer here. And the onus is on Hamas to accept it."

Senator Alex Padilla (D-CA): "There is [a] deal on the table to release all hostages along with an immediate 6-week ceasefire and an influx of humanitarian aid. Israel has agreed. Hamas needs to do the same given the dire humanitarian conditions in Gaza."

Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ): "Any ceasefire in Gaza must come with the release of hostages—I’ve long said that. Right now, it’s a matter of if Hamas will accept the conditions of a deal and commit to releasing hostages."

The New York Times: "Hamas Rejects Cease-Fire Proposal, Dashing Biden’s Hopes of Near Term Deal"
