Dear John:

International Women’s Day is this Friday, and we’d appreciate your support as we continue to fight for gender equality in 2024. ([link removed])

The road to legal change can be long and arduous, often taking years or even decades to come to fruition, but the outcome benefits millions of people and their communities worldwide. That’s why we’re seeking partners to join us on the path to gender equality and help fund our work to end discriminatory laws that undermine women’s safety and economic security, such as laws around inheritance, property ownership, and employment.

Did you know...
* A typical economy only grants women 75% of the same rights as men and only 14 out of 190 economies had achieved legal equality in 2023.
* Women are more likely to live on less than $1.90 a day than men.
* 86 countries have laws preventing women from working in specific jobs because of factors such as the time of day they are performed, and over 2.7 billion women worldwide are restricted from having the same job choices as men.
* 19 countries have laws that allow husbands to legally prevent their wives from working.

Discriminatory laws can bar women from economic independence and make them vulnerable to exploitation, violence, and forced marriage. These laws don’t only hurt women – they’re damaging to everyone. ([link removed])

Studies show that gender equality is a critical foundation for ending extreme poverty, and that full parity would increase the annual global Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by $28 trillion USD, leading to more stable and prosperous nations and a better future for all.

As a founding member and the secretariat for the Global Campaign for Equality in Family Law, Equality Now works closely with our partners to fight for legal and systemic change. In recent years, we helped develop a module for a course on gender and religious family law for FORB Learning platform, and continue to campaign to reduce the stigma surrounding the reformation of religious family laws.

But there’s more to do, and despite the enormous positive impact of gender equality, women’s rights movements are grossly underfunded, receiving only 1.8% of all charitable giving. This is why your contribution this International Women’s Day is so critical. ([link removed]) We need people like you to join us on the road to gender equality by backing our global team of human rights lawyers, policy experts, and coalition builders.

In 2023, Equality Now helped change 15 laws worldwide, potentially changing the lives of millions of women and girls. Our continued success depends on the support of people like you. Please stand with Equality Now this International Women’s Day by making a tax-deductible donation today.
With gratitude,
Amy Hutchinson
Global Director of Development
