We hope you’ll enjoy taking part in the BIGGEST citizen science investigation into plastic. But it’s natural to feel a bit worried, too. Most people are shocked to learn just how much plastic they throw away in a week. But let me set your mind at ease.

Whatever your plastic footprint, you’re not to blame for the problem.

All too often, we have no choice but to buy things wrapped in plastic. Supermarket shelves are crammed with prepackaged fruit and veg, plastic bottles and microwave meals — practically none of which is reusable.

So with a lack of affordable, accessible alternatives, no wonder your recycling bin is full to the brim!

Single-use plastic is everywhere. Scientists have discovered plastic in our blood, lungs and placentas [1]. And it’s being pushed on us by brands and supermarkets who are more interested in making money than protecting our health.

We think the government should take strong action to curb plastic.

If we all do our bit next week and count our plastic, we can show the government the true scale of the problem. We’ll use the evidence to push for a strong Global Plastics Treaty which will set new international laws to limit plastic production. So, are you in?
