That’s how long Ukrainian children have lived in a war zone.
The devastating violence has displaced 18.8 million people so far – but 11-year-old Matvii’s* family couldn’t find a driver.
Instead of evacuating, they huddled at home and rationed what little food they had left. Matvii’s family finally fled four months later – with nothing but a pot of rice and the kids’ favorite toys .
His parents rent a new home in East Ukraine now, near a village that’s littered with landmines. They can barely afford the monthly payment.

Kids are facing record levels of need worldwide – and if Congress doesn’t fund humanitarian aid, things will only get worse.
Hundreds of health facilities will close in Ukraine, and food rations for Syrian refugees will be cut even further. In Sudan, lifesaving support will fall sharply, despite a worsening food crisis.
