Dear John, On Wednesday, February 28, you received communication from me with the subject line: Urgent Missionary Rescues. I want to clarify some of the information in the letter that I believe is misleading. The communication implied that there are currently Cru missionaries who are being hunted and in need of rescue. That is not accurate. At the moment, we do not know of any staff who are currently being targeted or are in need of rescue. The story accurately reflects events that happened in the past. The Persecuted Staff Fund that I mentioned is used throughout the year to care for local missionaries who need assistance for a variety of emergency reasons. However, the request in my letter should have stated clearly that your funds are needed as we prepare for future emergencies, not for a current crisis. It is our commitment that every letter you receive from Cru provides a legitimate opportunity to meet a need with accuracy, clarity and integrity. In this recent communication we did not meet our required standards in clarity with our writing. We are determining where our systems fell short to ensure future communication is accurate. If, with this clarity, you would still consider participating in the Persecuted Staff Fund, we would be grateful for the very real needs it will meet in the future. Thank you for your ongoing participation in proclaiming the gospel around the world. If you have additional questions please email [email protected] or call (888) 278-7233 between 9-5 p.m. Eastern time.
