Senators Richard Burr and Kelly Loeffler are already millionaires.
In January, they were given a briefing by top Trump administration officials about the threat of coronavirus. Then, as President Trump was still downplaying the risks to the American public, they sold off their stocks before a catastrophic market crash. And it looks like they may not have been the only ones.
Senators Burr and Loeffler had inside information, and it appears that they used it to profit off a global crisis. Now, they must resign from the Senate.

To make matters worse, all the while they were selling their stocks, these senators were telling their constituents that COVID-19 wasn’t a threat. They were a part of Trump’s disinformation machine, trying to convince people we were fine.
This incident underscores the need to stop members of Congress from owning individual stocks in the first place. We are here to serve the public, not to profiteer. It’s shocking that it’s even been allowed up to this point.
There’s a lot of evidence that these senators likely knew COVID-19 was going to get bad.
They likely knew it would disproportionately affect working people.
They likely knew we weren’t prepared.
They definitely profited while working families lost everything.
