Trump admits he could be very easily blackmailed, actually
The serially indicted, disgraced ex-president has a new argument for why he deserves presidential immunity — and it’s truly mindboggling. The 77-year-old con man and GOP frontrunner actually argued that his preordained innocence is an issue of national security by admitting that he’s actually very susceptible to blackmail. Seriously. In a Truth Social post, Trump wrote, "Presidents will always be concerned, and even paralyzed, by the prospect of wrongful prosecution and retaliation, after they leave office. This could actually lead to extortion and blackmail of a President. The other side would say, 'If you don’t do something, just the way we want it, we are going to go after you when you leave office, or perhaps even sooner.'" Fun fact: The United States has had 46 presidents in its 248-year history, and only one has ever been hit with criminal charges. It really seems like this whole "absolute immunity" thing is more about Trump's litany of legal troubles and not the security and integrity of the presidency.

VIDEO OF THE DAY: Jamie Raskin takes action against Trump amid stunning Supreme Court ruling
Despite trial judges in California and Colorado finding Trump engaged in insurrection, the Supreme Court unanimously ruled that only Congress can bar anyone who engaged in insurrection from holding federal office, overturning a Colorado Supreme Court ruling which had previously removed the disgraced ex-president from the state's ballot. Democratic Rep. Jamie Raskin wasted no time to address the issue in the House, but with Trump's 👏 actual 👏 co-conspirators 👏 currently calling the shots in the lower chamber, it's little more than a pipe dream to assume any progress will be made in the matter. We're just going to have to beat the serially indicted con man at the ballot box. Again.

UN finds "convincing information" that Hamas raped and tortured Israeli hostages
The UN’s special envoy on sexual violence in conflict has reported "clear and convincing information" that some women and children hostages held by Hamas had been subjected to rape and sexualized torture and that there were "reasonable grounds" to believe such abuses were "ongoing." The special envoy, Pramila Patten, said that while her team did not manage to meet any survivors of sexual violence during the October 7 attacks, they were able to talk to multiple witnesses, review a large quantity of video footage and pictures, and interview released hostages. "Based on the first-hand accounts of released hostages, the mission team received clear and convincing information that sexual violence, including rape, sexualized torture, and cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment occurred against some women and children during their time in captivity and has reasonable grounds to believe that this violence may be ongoing," the report said.

Republican congressman under fire for vile, antisemitic tweet
GOP Rep. Mike Collins — who last made news by casually suggesting law enforcement throw a migrant from a helicopter in mid-flight — is under fire yet again, this time for his caustic reply to a brazenly antisemitic post on Twitter about a reporter’s Jewish heritage. Collins boosted a post by neo-Nazi account @GarbageHuman23, then claimed critics were grasping at straws because they dared to connect the very obvious dots.

Trump’s 2017 corporate tax cut fueled investment but did not pay for itself, study finds
Stop us if you've heard this one before, but the huge tax cuts the disgraced ex-president and his Republican enablers rammed through Congress in 2017 did not result in the transformative economic boom we were promised. While investment ticked upward and workers saw a modest boost in wages, the actual benefits of the cuts were far less than Republicans promised and came nowhere close to paying for themselves, as conservatives insisted they would. Instead, they are adding more than $100 billion a year to America’s $34 trillion-and-growing national debt. Shocking, we know.

Jon Stewart ridicules "dirty" Dr. Phil for warning that migrants "with six-packs" are crossing the border
During a segment on rampant Republican fearmongering about migrants (it's election season, after all), Stewart played a rather unsettling clip of Dr. Phil (yep, still around!) rambling about the crisis at the southern border on — why not — the Joe Rogan Experience last month, and, well, hilarity ensued. Roll the tape!

Trump White House was apparently awash in drugs because no one wanted to be there
Under Donald Trump’s, uh, "leadership," the West Wing operated more like a pill mill than the White House, at least according to a January report by the Department of Defense inspector general, which capped a six-year investigation into the administration’s medical practices. Common pills doled out by the White House Medical Unit included modafinil, Adderall, fentanyl, morphine, and ketamine, according to the Pentagon report. But other, unlisted drugs — like Xanax— were equally easy to come by. While other presidents were known to take a mix of drug cocktails to fight off back pain (like JFK) or bad moods (like Nixon), no previous administrations matched the level of debauchery of Trump’s, whose in-office pharmacists unquestioningly handed out highly addictive substances to staffers who needed pick-me-ups or energy boosts — no doctor’s exam, referral, or prescription required.
Sen. John Thune gunning to become McConnell's heir apparent
John Thune, the Senate minority whip, confirmed Monday that he’s throwing his hat in the ring to replace Mitch McConnell, who is stepping down in November after decades of doing everything in his power to marginalize the lower class, dismantle the middle class, and faithfully serve the 1%. In his sales pitch to his fellow Senate Republicans, Thune paid lip service to phantom ideals of "consistent, principled, conservative leadership" that will clearly and unceremoniously be chucked aside the moment the next leader is chosen. Here's to many more years of the same old shit.
