Michigan's repeal of a nearly century-old abortion ban, after their successful 2022 ballot initiative to enshrine abortion rights in the state’s constitution, was one of the most impactful and decisive actions taken to protect reproductive freedom since the overturning of Roe v. Wade. Seeing this historic effort through to the very end by Governor Whitmer’s signing of the final piece of the Reproductive Health Act into law was inspiring for supporters of reproductive freedom everywhere. These decisive actions, in the name of total reproductive freedom for women along with the work that has been done to turn Michigan blue, is an example of what women in power can accomplish.
As the first Democratic woman elected Secretary of State of Michigan , Jocelyn Benson is a shining example of how important it is to have strong women in leadership at all levels of government.
