Government Funding Begins as Laken Riley Bill Highlights Broken Parole Process

Dear John,

There are 3 main things to watch inside immigration this week.

Appropriations Process Begins

The long waited, much delayed appropriations process for funding the U.S. Government is finally here. If you recall, Speaker Johnson asked, that this be done in 2 steps, a "ladder" which had 2 rungs on it, so that different portions of the government could be addressed at different times.

The first part is this Friday. The appropriation bills are available for many of those departments that were required to have such. This includes everything from military construction and Veterans Affairs, to energy and water, to transportation, and several others. None of which impact immigration.

However just down the road is March 22nd, which is when the Department of Homeland Security has its Appropriations Bill due. It will be brought forward with a group of others if they are approved as a group. That's referred to as a minibus. All those appropriation bills on that minibus, including DHS, are being looked at and approved together as one bill.

Laken Riley Act

Happening this week is the Laken Riley Act. This is a bill that was brought forth by the unfortunate death and murder of a nursing student at the University of Georgia campus. This person was killed allegedly by a Venezuelan who is here as an illegal alien. He was in custody prior to the crime and was time, and was released. The fact that this illegal alien was in custody and no one was notified of that, and then was released allowing him to allegedly commit this crime is something that we've seen in other areas of the country as well, such as in the Boston area. This is a tragedy of the parole process of the Biden administration, where the case by case vetting of an individual is not being done. It's being done as a class of people from a given country, and it's resulting in terrible circumstances and tragedies like the Laken Riley death.

There's legislation coming forward to help stop this. We'll be putting out an action alert to you and asking you to support it. It looks like it may be a messaging bill that the Senate won't pick up once again. However, I think the House is gonna have good legislation for you to be able to act on this week.

State of the Union Address by President Biden

President Biden is going to most likely try to announce by Executive Order those things which the Senate wouldn't even bring to the floor to vote on. If you call the Senate Immigration Bill, it was allegedly going to give the President powers he currently did not have, which he already does have. It was going to somehow limit immigration which it absolutely did not. It actually codified illegal immigration at the level of 550,000 per year of illegal aliens let into the country each year even if they're trying to shut down the border as an administrative action. It also increased several other legal limits on other visas that are available for legal permanent residents.

President Biden is going to come up with Executive Order trying to show his tough stance on immigration and the border catastrophe that have been caused by his administration. The surge of the border with over 300,000 encounters occurring every single month. He's gonna try to now take action that the Senate wouldn't even take up to try to be able to allegedly solve the problem that his administration has created.

So it should be an interesting week of messaging events. You'll be receiving action alerts this week and an inside immigration newsletter at the end of the week. You'll hear from our experts, such as Grant, Newman, Andrew Good, as well as, Jeremy Beck, all giving you updates on the status of inside immigration activities this week.

Best Regards,
