We're the only global fund dedicated to abortion

Since we were founded in 2006 we've provided almost $70 million in grants to hundreds of organisations working on abortion around the world. We were set up to try to fill the gap left by a lack of support for what is still often considered a 'sensitive' topic.

Read more about why SAAF still needs to exist, and how we support a brave and vocal global movement to protect and expand reproductive rights for everyone.

SAAF and partners at the ARJC

We were delighted to be able to attend the 'Abortion and Reproductive Justice Conference' (ARJC) recently hosted by the Asia Safe Abortion Partnership in Bangkok.

Representatives from 19 SAAF grantee partner organisations were in attendance, sharing their important work from 16 different countries around the world. SAAF was also part of a panel to discuss the importance of flexible and ongoing funding for abortion.

We're excited that former SAAF grantee partner Mama Network will be hosting the next iteration of the conference in 2026!

SAAF Annual Survey results are in!

Thank you to all the SAAF grantee partners who responded to our recent Annual Survey. This is just one of the ways we ensure regular consultation with the groups we fund, in order to continuously monitor and improve our work.

We're delighted that overall, 89% of respondents told us that they gained more than just funding from SAAF - most commonly, support with Monitoring and Evaluation, Financial Management and Strategic Planning.

"Without SAAF's support, we would not have broken the silence and the stigma on abortion in our country."

SAAF grantee partner spotlight: Sarajevo Open Centre

Sarajevo Open Centre (SOC) ([link removed]) works to advance human rights in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with a particular focus on gender equality and LGBT+ rights.

Although the law allows for abortion on request up to 10 weeks of pregnancy, their SAAF-funded research has found a shocking number of barriers to access in reality.

The SOC team interviewed health care facilities and surveyed over 150 people who have had abortions and found that there was a lack of consistent provision of abortion care across the country.

SAAF is hosted by IPPF. If you wish to report anything which concerns you about our work, or the work of our grantee partners (such as abuse, fraud, malpractice) please consider using the confidential external incident reporting service IPPF SafeReport ([link removed]) .
