Pittsburgh-based EQT is the nation's largest natural gas producer with an ever-growing Appalachian footprint.
It expanded its operations in the West Virginia village of Knob Fork in 2021. Four neighboring families in the hamlet pleaded for help from state environmental regulators as health concerns mounted. The state deferred to EQT, but now the federal EPA is investigating. Nonetheless, the families fled the hollow, abandoning their homes. ([link removed])

Reporter Quinn Glabicki immersed himself in the lives of three of the four families as he chronicled the environmental effects and health concerns that followed EQT’s expansion of activities in the heart of the gas company’s fracking zone.
