February Forecast

As our legislative session progresses here at the Minnesota State Senate, we find ourselves faced with the task of rectifying the fiscal missteps of the previous term, characterized by imprudent spending initiatives under Democratic leadership. It has become evident that the ramifications of unilateral governance can be severe. The $17.5 billion surplus allocated to a partisan agenda, combined with persistent tax hikes, has harmed family finances, small businesses, and education, pushing us toward budget deficits.

The imposition of numerous mandates and stipulations accompanying last year's funding allocation has placed undue strain on our educational institutions. The hasty passage of legislation by the Democratic party has directly contributed to the current fiscal shortfalls we are now grappling with. We must alleviate the burdens weighing down our small businesses and our public schools.

The February forecast is deeply concerning as it underscores a persistent trend of state expenditures outpacing revenue generation. During the previous legislative session, Democrats expanded government expenditure by 38% and imposed nearly $10 billion in tax hikes on Minnesotans. Such exorbitant spending levels are unsustainable, and the people of Minnesota deserve a more fiscally responsible approach. We must exercise restraint over the Democrats' profligate spending tendencies and prioritize initiatives aimed at restoring fiscal health and protecting taxpayers' hard-earned dollars. Minnesotans cannot afford another year under one-party control.

Student Resource Officers (SRO's)

As your Senator, I am committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of our community, especially the children who attend our schools. One important aspect of maintaining a safe school environment is the presence of School Resource Officers (SROs). These dedicated law enforcement officers play a vital role in safeguarding our schools, fostering positive relationships with students, and responding effectively to any potential threats or incidents.

I firmly believe that having trained law enforcement professionals in our schools is essential for ensuring the safety and security of our students, teachers, and staff. SROs not only serve as a visible deterrent to potential threats but also provide invaluable support and guidance to students, helping to cultivate a positive and respectful school environment.

Despite the urgent need to prioritize school safety, some of our Democratic colleagues have been unwilling to come to the table to discuss potential solutions. However, I am pleased to report that progress is being made, and it appears that we may have finally found common ground on this critical issue.

Law enforcement agencies have indicated their support for measures to strengthen and expand SRO programs in our schools. We need to act now to fix this issue and support our law enforcement. It is important for us now to come together and finish the job. We need our students to be safe and SROs the best tool we have to ensure that safety.
