Dear John,

As we all do our part, and we continue to fight to beat this virus, I have been working hard with my colleagues to ensure you have all the resources and help you need to navigate this time of uncertainty.

Congressional Action

Congress just passed a robust, bipartisan economic relief package, providing a historic investment to combat the coronavirus pandemic and support workers and families. The bill includes direct payments of up to $1,200 to working and middle-class North Texans, as well as an additional $500 for each child in those households. The direct payments phase out for incomes above $75,000 per individual and $150,000 per household. It also expands access to unemployment insurance, resulting in a $600 increase and 13 more weeks in unemployment benefits for North Texans who lost their jobs due to COVID-19.

The package also allocates $150 billion to states to aid efforts in combating coronavirus, as well as funds to bolster our health care system as the virus takes its toll on our hospitals and clinics.

Additionally, the bill supplies a $377 billion investment in small businesses to help business owners get back on their feet and keep workers on their payrolls. My office created a resource guide for small businesses to help them through this difficult time. You can access that document here: COVID-19 Small Business Resource Guide. The bill also includes vital assistance to our workers in North Texas industries like our airlines and airports, who have been hit hard. Learn more about this package here

As the bill was about to pass, I took to the House floor to speak to North Texans, thank our local leaders and provide a message of hope and encouragement during this crisis.

This is just one component of all the important work we must do to get through this, but I am working to ensure that this relief gets to the families and workers who are hurting because of this public health crisis.

Travel

Many countries have restricted travel to stop the spread of coronavirus, resulting in as many as 50,000 Americans seeking help to return back to the United States. My office has been working diligently to help North Texans stranded in places all over the world like Spain, Haiti, and Honduras return back to the United States.

The State Department has issued a level 4: Do Not Travel Advisory urging U.S. citizens to avoid international travel due to the global impact of COVID-19. If you or a loved one are currently stranded abroad, you can call my office at 972-972-7949 for help.

Unemployment Benefits

If you lost your job due to COVID-19, you can apply for unemployment benefits on the Texas Workforce Commission’s website or by calling the Texas Workforce Commission’s telecenter at 800-939-6631, Monday-Friday from 8 AM-6 PM CST.

Resources in Spanish

I want to make sure that all the resources available are accessible to every North Texan, so if you, a loved one, or neighbor needs resources in Spanish, please share this with them.

This is a rapidly evolving situation, but I will continue to monitor this public health emergency to protect the health and economic security of North Texans. For the latest updates, and if you have questions or concerns regarding this disease or prevention efforts, I urge you to seek further information from the CDC at coronavirus.gov or on my website at allred.house.gov/coronavirus.

Sincerely,
