Today, we’re sharing Linda Pauling’s story. Her son Chris’ wish inspired the creation of Make-A-Wish®. As World Wish Month™ approaches, we’d like to share with you today the profound impact your generosity has had on children like Chris’, and families like Linda’s. 

When Chris was diagnosed with leukemia at the tender age of 4, Linda’s world was turned upside down. Doctors gave him a prognosis of just 3 years, and from then on she knew that she’d do everything in her power to help him live his life to the fullest in the time he had left. 

In the midst of Chris' critical illness, Linda’s community rallied together to fulfill his wish to become a police officer, and the outpouring of support was overwhelming. At last he was able to leave his illness behind for a day as he was awarded the honorary rank of patrolman and even got to ride in a real ranger helicopter.

And although Chris' journey with us was short-lived, his legacy lives on through the thousands of wishes granted in his honor.

It's been more than four decades since Chris' wish was granted, and Make-A-Wish has impacted thousands of kids, thanks to the unwavering dedication of supporters like you. However, there are still many more children like Chris awaiting their own transformative wish experiences.
