If you’ve ever seen a conversation about Jill Stein on social media, you’ve likely noticed something: Jill’s detractors like to endlessly post a photo of her at a conference in Russia, often with claims that this one out-of-context image is somehow reason enough to not support Jill.



Jill has always been completely public and transparent about her reasons for going to Russia in December 2015, even before the trip. But since the real story has gotten less attention than the attacks, we made this short video in response to popular demand from our supporters to help you answer any questions.

Jill’s political opponents post the same out-of-context photo countless times to imply some sort of nefarious conspiracy - but what they don’t want you to know is the real story behind the photo that shows how ridiculous their false narratives are.



Unfortunately, a number of media outlets have hardly been better, blasting out sensationalist headlines in late 2018, when the Senate Intelligence Committee announced it would investigate Jill’s trip, then quietly burying the story when the investigation found no wrongdoing whatsoever.



Here are some key facts about Jill’s trip to Russia:



- Jill Stein was invited to a 2015 media conference in Russia, which she attended at her own expense to spread a message of peace and diplomacy.

- As part of the same trip she attended the Paris climate conference and met with a range of leaders including Jeremy Corbyn, the deputy climate negotiator for China, and Green parliamentarians from the UK and Australia.

- At the Moscow conference, Jill gave a talk in which she criticized the excessive militarism of both Vladimir Putin and U.S. leaders. Her remarks were part of a panel discussion that included Ken Livingstone, former Mayor of London, Willy Wimmer, former German Parliamentary State Secretary, and Cyril Svoboda, former Czech Foreign Minister.

- At the dinner she was seated at a table with diplomats and office holders from various countries, including Michael Flynn, who had most recently served as the Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency under Obama, and who had no affiliation with Trump at the time.

- Vladimir Putin sat at the table for a few minutes, during which he spoke only with his Russian-speaking companions.

- Dr. Stein publicized her experiences at the time via a press release and social media posts on Facebook <[link removed]> and Twitter <[link removed]>, as well as emails to campaign supporters.

- The Senate Intelligence Committee later investigated her trip and found no wrongdoing whatsoever. 



Jill’s commitment to diplomacy is more needed than ever and stands in stark contrast to the two warmongering ruling parties, which are driving us toward WWIII and draining resources urgently needed here at home.



As Jill says, we need leaders who have the backbone to talk to our adversaries as well as our allies - because without diplomacy and international engagement, we won’t be able to tackle the existential threats of global climate crisis and nuclear war.



Fortunately, we have the opportunity this year to elect a president who has the courage to do just that.
